The venue revived a theatrical tradition silenced under the Ständestaat and postwar austerity: cabaret that blends striptease choreography, live music, and satirical commentary. Mirage's stage sits beneath a restored Art Nouveau ceiling salvaged from a Ringstrasse café, its gilt plasterwork framing performances that weave feather fans, rhinestone corsets, and political wit into 90-minute narratives.
The Vienna burlesque show format follows neo-burlesque conventions established in New York and London during the 1990s revival, but Mirage anchors its repertoire in Central European cabaret lineage. Acts reference Weimar-era diseuses and the satirical revues of the Simpl, Vienna's longest-running kabarett, founded in 1912. Choreographers collaborate with the Wiener Symphoniker's second-chair musicians to score performances that alternate between Strauss waltzes, torch songs, and electronic remixes.
